Morning Announcements

8/12/22

There will be an informational HOSA meeting today during focus. If you are interested in a career in healthcare, please come by and see what it's all about. The meeting will be in Mrs. Dodson's room 305 in the south hall.

If you have a laptop payment, it must be paid in the library by 8:30.

If you are interested in joining either the Bible or Book Club, please scan the QR code on the bulletin board outside of the library or see Ms. Anderson in the library.


8/11/22

10th-12th grade new and returning Beta Club members: pick up a 22-23 Beta contract and pay your $15 dues by Friday, August 19th. This year, Mrs. Hurmiz will be the sponsor for all 10th grade members and also seniors whose last names end in A-H. Mrs. Matamoros will be the sponsor for all 11th graders and also seniors whose names end in I-Z. Please see your grade-level sponsor to pick up a contract, pay, and to check on your eligibility this year.

If you were unable to attend the Drama Club meeting and would like more information, please stop by Mrs. Dill's room (145) or Mrs. Horner's room (144) in the East Hallway. Drama Club fees and contract forms are due Monday, 8/22/22. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Dill.

8/10/22

The Theater department would like to invite any student who is interested in being a part of Drama Club to report to the Theater room during Focus time today! Again, anyone interested in being in Drama Club this year should report to the Theater room during Focus time today. Teachers, please allow these students to attend as they are not yet on the club roster.

There is a volunteer opportunity available for any student wishing to get some community service hours. Next Saturday, August 20th, RIFA is hosting the Pack the Bus event in Jackson. You can sign up for one of three shifts, 8:30-11:00, 11:00-1:30, or 1:30-4:00. You have to let Mrs. Cross know by this Friday if you are willing to volunteer.

The district technology department will be set up Thursday, August 11th in the cafeteria during all lunch shifts to take tech fee payments. If you had your laptop checked but did not have payment, please take care of this tomorrow.

It's that time of year again...time for the FCCLA membership drive. Stop by Mrs. Martin's room 163 and grab your membership form. Dues are 30.00 and include a t-shirt. Our theme this year is Light Up Your Future with FCCLA!

Students without a parking pass displayed or purchased will need to move your vehicle across the street to the athletic complex parking lot. Your pass must be purchased before Friday, August 12th. If you do not have a pass displayed or purchased by Monday, August 15th, you will not be allowed to park on campus.

The Theater Department would like to congratulate Laila Mays on being accepted into AMDA, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy! We are SO proud of you and know you're going to do GREAT things .

8/9/22

Lets travel together!! Bring your friends and lets go island hopping! If you are interested in hearing about a trip to Athens and the Greek islands in the summer of 2024, meet today in Mrs. Long's room (304 south hall) during Focus time to get details!

ALL students are required to have a school-issued laptop. If you are a new student needing a laptop or you have your $25 tech fee to pay, you will need to come to the library before 8:30am to take care of this.

FFA is looking for students to participate in the Land Evaluation CDE. If you have an interest in soil science and would like to put your skills to the test, this is the contest for you. Any FFA member interested should sign up on the board outside of Mr. Mills' room. Practice will begin next week.

Come prepare to be an amazing coworker as you learn about and prepare for careers in business. If you are interested in joining Future Business Leaders of America as a new or returning member, please scan the QR codes located in Mrs. Allen's, Mrs. Denton's, or Mrs. Cathey's rooms and around the school today!

Students, as you go through the serving line in the cafeteria, please refrain from using your phone in order to speed up the serving process.

Students who do not have a parking will be required to park in the athletic complex parking lot beginning today. You will have till the end of this week Friday, August 12th to purchase and pickup your parking pass or you will not be allowed to park in any school parking lot, including the athletic complex beginning Monday, August 15th. Parking passes are to be purchased through GoFan.co and picked up from Deputy Clark during lunch.

Students if you plan to get your permit--you must request a compulsory attendance form from the counseling office. Once you have requested the form, you will pick up the form from the front office when it is ready. The forms are only printed on Thursdays.

Congratulations to the boys golf team on their 160-176 win over union city yesterday. Dalton Pevahouse and Caleb Ward tied for medalist honors shooting 39.

Due to time issues, there were 4 junior homerooms that did not have their laptops checked and technology fee collected this week. The staff from central office will return next week to finish the process. There will be an announcement made when that date has been determined. Students who did have their laptop looked at but did not have the fee with them, can bring the fee to Mrs. Anderson in the media center.

Anyone interested in trying out for the Tennis Team this year needs to come by Coach Curry's Room (151) and pick up a packet. There will be 9 training sessions leading up to tryouts on September 29th. Come by and talk with Coach Curry today!

This Friday is the last day to sign up for the September 10th ACT. If you want to take the ACT, go to myact.org to register. The ACT will also be offered on Saturdays at SGC in October and December.

Any new student interested in playing boys basketball meet in the gym Wednesday August 3 immediately following school. Also, anyone interested in applying for a manager's position needs to meet in the gym Thursday, August 4 immediately following school.

Ms. Naffziger’s Work Based Learning Classes will meet in the computer lab in the back of the library during the first week of school.
