The Lady Hornet Soccer Team defeated Crockett County last night 4-0. Nadia Presson, Aubrey Colvin, Tetteybea Addo and Brynlee Butler each had 1 goal. Aubrey Colvin and Kayla Peterson each had 1 assist. Ava Odle had 2 saves in the game.

Beta Club will meet today during Focus time in the cafeteria. Any current Beta members are invited to attend.

If you are interested in joining book club, we will have our first meeting today in the library media center during focus. Anyone is welcome to attend.

1) Students - next week is college app week. Let's start the week off right by everyone wearing attire that represents your favorite college team on Monday.
2) The deadline to register for the October 23rd ACT is this Friday, September 17th. If you need assistance, please see someone in the counseling office.

Just a reminder we will be going to homeroom at the end of 3rd block for the final day of homecoming voting.

Attention students who are interested in FBLA: our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 21st. This meeting will be for members who have already paid their dues and students who have filled out the Google Membership Form. If you want more information about FBLA, scan one of the QR codes in the hallways, fill out the form by Monday afternoon, and come join us!

Attention FCCLA members - IF you are interested in participating in competitive events this year with FCCLA and gaining opportunities to travel to places like Gatlinburg and San Diego,
we are having our start up STAR event meeting this afternoon from 3-4 in Mrs. Martin's room.

The Lady Hornet Soccer Team defeated Dyersburg last night 6 - 3. Tetteybea Addo and Kayla Peterson each score 2 goals. Ella Piercey and Aubrey Colvin each had 1 goal 1 assist. Sierra Healy also had an assist. Ava Odle had 8 saves during the game.

Congratulations to Louis Cianciolo and Alana Seals for medaling at the Huntingdon Cross Country meet yesterday. Louis placed 15th, and Alana Seals placed 14th. Also, don't forget to vote for Louis for boys athlete of the week. The link to vote is on the school's Facebook page and QR codes are on the TVs around the school.

Cafe 206 will be taking orders for West Hall today. Put your order in before 8:10. Drinks will be delivered at the end of 1st block.


If you have sold any socks for the FFA sock fundraiser, please get those sale order forms turned in to Mrs. Barnes or Mr. Mills today. If you are interested in purchasing some of the coolest socks in the world, please come see Ms. Barnes or Mr. Mills. Socks are $12 a pair, and they are worth every penny!

Hello folks! If you love agriculture, have an interest in animals and plants, or just want to be in a club, come on down to Ms. Barnes' room during Focus time on Friday. We will be holding the 1st FFA meeting of the year. Please show up and see if FFA is the place for you. Dues are $5, but you do not have to pay before attending the meeting.

The Balfour representative will be here at SGCHS on Thursday, September 23rd from 11:00-12:45 for the purpose of assisting senior students with ordering graduation supplies and cap and gown. Please bring deposit and completed order form to order. Order packets are available in the office for students that missed the meeting.

Seniors - If you are in Mrs. Rojas' homeroom, you will report to the cafeteria during homeroom. Please bring your computer, pen, and your TSAC username and password if you have had a dual enrollment class .

Congratulations to the girls' golf team on their wins over JCS and Chester County yesterday. Emma Butler was medalist. Both teams will conclude their regular season on Thursday at Humboldt Golf and Country Club.

Café 206 is excited to announce they are now open for business. The days are as follows: Tuesday will be South Hall, Wednesday is West Hall, Thursday is East Hall, and Friday is CTE/Fine Arts & Gym. Remember to use the QR code for your specific hall and place your order before 8:10. Teachers, please remember to go over the expectations with your first block students. Even as children, we know there was great power in being a teacher. Remember playing school and fighting over who was going to lead the group? Future Teachers of America is an organization that helps future educators prepare for the classroom and become a part of a professional community. If you are interested in becoming a teacher after high school or working in the educational field, this club is for you. Our first informational meeting will be Tuesday, September 14 during Focus in Ms. Cabler's room #118.

It is now time to pay Beta Club dues for the 2021-22 school year. Any returning members should stop by your grade-level sponsor's room this week to pick up a Beta contract and pay your $10 Beta fees. Any new student wishing to join may also see the corresponding sponsor for more information. Grade level sponsors are Mrs. Matamoros for 10th grade, Mr.Gollihugh for 11th grade, and Mrs. Hurmiz for 12th grade. Membership dues will be accepted until Friday, September 24th.

The 3rd block ACT Prep classes will be rotating classes today. Mrs. Walton's class will meet with Mr. Whitaker, Mr. Whitaker's class will move to Mrs. Luther, and Mrs. Luther's class will move to Mrs. Walton until the end of the quarter.

Mr. Greg Williams with Balfour will be here today, September 9th, during Focus time to meet with all of the seniors to go over cap and gown information, as well as show you other graduation items you can order. You will actually place your order on Thursday, September 23rd during the senior tailgate party.

Make-up pictures are scheduled for next Wednesday, 9/15. We'll begin at 11:00 in the gym. If you were absent on the original picture day, please plan to have your picture taken. Students who attend GC will have their picture taken when they return to SGC at 11:30. If you had your picture taken last week, and you would like to have a re-take,

South Gibson High School is currently gauging interest in an Esports program. This program would operate similarly to Bass Fishing, Shooting Sports, and Robotics. Please sign up by scanning the QR code found on the door entering to the nurses station or in the gym lobby. Please look for the orange paper with the ESPORT QR code.

HOSA will have two informational meetings this week. Please try to make it to one of these meetings if you are joining or interested in joining HOSA. The first will be this Thursday afternoon September 9 at 3:30 and the second will be this Friday morning September 10 at 7:15. Both meetings will be in Mrs. Dodson's room #305.

Lilli Paz and Addison Woodyard each had 2 saves as the trio combined for a shutout.

The Football team would like to thank the students and faculty for creating a tremendous atmosphere last Friday night. You made it feel like a home game for us. Thanks for that extra motivation we needed to get it done.


Congratulations to Louis Cianciolo and Alana Seals for medaling at the Lexington Cross Country Meet yesterday. Louis placed 5th with a time of 18 minutes and 18 seconds, and Alana placed 5th with a time of 23 minutes and 52 seconds.

The Lady Hornet Soccer team tied Madison last night 1 - 1. Aubrey Colvin scored the lone goal. Ava Odle recorded 5 saves.


Students, when you are checking out, you must stop at the sliding glass windows by the nurses office to scan the QR code. You are required to have a note, or your parent/guardian must come to school to check you out.

When checking in, you must scan the QR code located on the sliding glass windows by the nurses station. All excuse notes should be turned into the clear box located below the sliding glass windows.

Important ACT Information:
Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for a calculator for the Sept. 11th ACT. You can find the sign up link on our social media or your school email.
If you are taking the ACT on September 11th, you must bring an ID. If you do not have an ID, you MUST get a student identification form from Ms. Anderson in our library media center and return it to her by Tuesday, September 7th.

Our photographer has requested to re-take athletic pictures for a few students. Teachers will receive an email with the names. Please allow these students to leave class at 10:45 on Friday. Pictures will be taken at the football field during Focus time on Friday. Thank you for your assistance.

Seniors - if you are in Ms. Barnes' HR or Ms. Andrews' HR, you will meet in the cafeteria this Wednesday, September 1st, during Focus time. You will need to bring your laptop and a pen. Any dual enrollment student in those homerooms will need to attend Wednesday also.

If you are interested in playing tennis, come by Coach Curry's room to pick up a packet. There will be 10 training sessions, working with beginners, intermediate, and returning players, this fall at North Park in Jackson. Coach Curry will teach you the game of tennis and if you enjoy playing the game, keep coming back. Once again, if you are interested in playing tennis, stop by Coach Curry's room to pick up a packet.

Lady Hornet Volleyball hosts Obion County here starting at 5.

Congratulations to the girls and boys golf teams for their victories yesterday. The boys set a new school record shooting 8 over par as a team and defeated Dyersburg, Milan, and Sacred Heart. Renato Gerena was medalist shooting even par. The girls defeated Milan with Emma Butler shooting 2 over to receive medalist honors.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the FFA meeting has been rescheduled. The new date is to be decided. Again, we will NOT be having an FFA meeting after school today.

There will be a Bass Team meeting at 6:00pm in the media center today, Tuesday, August, 31st. 


The ACT will be given at SGC on Saturday, September 11. If you need a calculator for the test, please see our social media, website, or your school email for the link to sign up. You must sign up to receive a calculator, for calculators will not be handed out on the day of the test.

If you are interested in a healthcare occupation in your future, come join HOSA. Please stop by Mrs. Dodson's, Mrs. Whitaker's, or Mr. Embrey's room for a membership form. Forms and $25 dues are due by September 20. We will try to have our first meeting next week, so pay attention to the announcements. We can't wait to see all of you shatter your expectations this school year.

Yesterday the girls and boys cross country teams competed at the West Carroll Meet, and we had 5 medalists: Matthew Minton placed 20th, Kayla Brien placed 16th, Grace Taylor placed 9th, Alana Seals placed 8th, and Louis Cianciolo placed 2nd. Also, our girls team placed 3rd overall. Congratulations to the Girls team and all the medalists.

The FFA will be collecting donations for the natural disaster in Waverly. We are asking for your help to bring donations to support them in this time of need. Donations of $5-10 gift cards or other nonperishable items would be greatly appreciated. Please bring collections to FFA Officers, Mrs. Barnes, or Mr. Mills in the CTE hall. Donations will be excepted through Friday afternoon.


School day pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 24. Please dress accordingly. Football, band, cross country, golf and ladies' soccer will also be taken.

The Balfour Representative will be on campus to deliver class rings on Thursday, September 9th from 11:00-12:30. Please bring correct balance due on that date. The theatre department would like to invite all singers and dancers to audition for the upcoming fall musical revue, "All Together Now!" Please stop by the theatre board for more information on audition tips as well as a sign up sheet for an audition time. Auditions will be held immediately after school on Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8, from 3:15-4:30 pm in the theatre room. Please see Mrs. Dill or Mrs. Reasons for more information.
