Happy FBLA Week! FBLA would like to help our community by collecting items for RIFA backpacks--these are put together for children to provide food for those less fortunate. If you would like to donate, bring non-perishable items such as pop-tarts, macaroni and cheese bowls, or other foods that would be easy to prepare. You may drop these off in Mrs. Cathey's room.

As you sign up for classes this week just remember, that taking any fine arts class is a great way to try something new and have a non-traditional and creative experience. We would love to see you down the fine arts hall, in whatever class you chose, but you should definitely consider choir. If you have any questions, just ask a Mr. Johnson or anyone you see in choir shirt this week!

FCCLA's annual Valentine's Bake Sale is this THURSDAY, Feb. 9 during FOCUS - FCCLA will load their carts with delicious sweets and treats and roll by your classroom this THURSDAY during Focus.

- Prom will be held Saturday, March 18 from 8PM – 11 PM at The New Southern Hotel, Downtown Jackson. Senior Walk will begin promptly at 7:30 PM.
- Prom contracts will be available for pick up beginning Wednesday, February 1st in the main office. Please come to the window by the nurses’ station or pick one up in the cafeteria during lunch.
- Ticket pre-sale will be two days only: Thursday, February 23rd and Friday, February 24th. Cost for pre-sale tickets is $35 each.
- Regular sale tickets will be two days only, Thursday, March 2nd and Friday, March 3rd. Cost for regular tickets is $45 each.
- Tickets will be sold in front of the media center on the designated days only.
- Tickets will not be sold at any other times than posted. No late tickets will be sold. No tickets will be sold at the door.
- Contracts MUST be completed completely and correctly at time of purchase. Please read the contract thoroughly to ensure you have all information needed to purchase tickets.
- Please make sure your attendance is in alignment with prom requirements. No more than 10 unexcused absences consisting of all day and tardy unexcused. 3 unexcused tardies equals one full day absent.

Students traveling to the Preds Leadership Event will be leaving their first block class at 9:15 today. Students need to meet at the main back door closest to the CTE hall and cafeteria.
The South Gibson Winter Color Guard went to their first ever competition this weekend as they traveled to Mt. Juliet High School to compete with 40 other winter guard groups. They had a fantastic debut by winning 1st place in their group of 12! Not only that, but they ended up with the highest score out of all 40 groups that were there. Congratulations to the first ever SGC Winter Color Guard on an incredible first performance!

There will be a MANDATORY travel meeting today during FOCUS for any FBLA or FCCLA member attending the Predators Leadership Event next Tuesday, January 24. This meeting will be in Mrs. Denton's computer lab.

Application deadline for students wishing to attend state FFA convention in March is this Friday. Those submitting an application should turn them into Ms. Reames by the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.

Auditions were held on Saturday for the 2023 All West Tennessee Honor Band, and there were ten students from the SGC Band who made it - Kannon Brown, Max Smith, Adam Escue, Lucas Emerson, Abbegail Sloan, Jacob Barron, Eli Lickey, Ansel Khamapirad, Noah Merrill, and Katie Robison. And in addition to making All West, three of those students placed high enough to make the All State Band - they are Adam Escue, Eli Lickey, and Ansel Khamapirad. Congratulations to these students!

The January Service project for Beta Club is Blessings Bags. Please see the announcement on Schoology for information about this project. All Blessing Bags are due by Friday, January 27th. Check with your grade-level sponsor if you need to check how many Beta points you currently have.
The Will Pevahouse Scholarship is now available. This scholarship is for any student athlete that participates in a sanctioned TSSAA sport, including managers or trainers. This scholarship requires a letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor.
The deadline to turn in the application to Mrs. Cross is March 6th, 2023. This allows Mrs. Cross time to write the required letter of recommendation. No late applications will be accepted.
Students that were in Mrs. Martin's classes last semester, please stop by and pick up your course binder by Monday, Jan. 9.
